Close to the Viseu Ryokan is the Cava de Viriatoone of the most enigmatic and emblematic places in the city.
Although its origins are still shrouded in mystery, the Cava is deeply linked to the legendary figure of Viriato the Lusitanian hero who faced the Roman Empire in the 2nd century BC. Strolling through this historic space, you can imagine ancient battles and feel the symbolic weight of a place that represents resistance and national identity.


Dão Ecotrailway
For lovers of nature, cycling and hiking, the Dão Ecotrailway is an invitation you can't refuse. This greenway is one of the most beautiful and well-used former railway lines in Portugal, which has been transformed into a ecological corridor perfect for exploring the Dão countryside.
Stretching for around 49 kilometres, the ecotrail links Viseu to Santa Comba Dão, passing through refreshing tunnels, historic bridges and stunning landscapes of vineyards, fields and riverside forests.
Vouga Ecotrailway
Viseu is the starting point for the Vouga Ecotrailway, an impressive 65-kilometre route inaugurated in 2023.
Perfect for cyclists and walkers, this ecotrail follows the route of the old Vouga railway line, taking you through tunnels, bridges and stunning landscapes that connect Viseu to São Pedro do Sul, Vouzela and Oliveira de Frades. It is a unique experience to appreciate the nature and history of the region, and connects to the Dão Ecotrailway, forming the longest continuous ecotrailway in Portugal.
